Egypt

Let’s Walk Like an Egyptian

I never thought I would make it out to Egypt but as I have been diagnosed as a travel-holic, I find it that I will go out my way and make things happen to get my travel fix. I mean it’s the only things that keeps me sane and what really makes me happy these days, with that being said let’s talk about my traditional birthday trip I took this year in 2021. I decided to go to Egypt for several reasons:
  1. 1) I hear Europe weather in Novemeber is not all that well
  2. 2) I love history
  3. 3) I Love Mediterranean food and;
  4. 4) Its Egypt for crying out loud!
This is a country where civilization was one of the earliest in world history, we are talking ancient! and that had to be my main reason for wanting to see this land. When I book and make my travel arrangements, I do a lot of research months before my trip because I like to be organized and I like to get the best reviews of hotels, restaurants and tours that I would be considering.
For the stay I chose a newer hotel the Hyatt Regency Cairo West that opened in the year 2020. This hotel over exceeded in customer service, hospitality, cleanliness, food and in any other areas you can think of in the hospitality industry. I really loved the hotel because it was new modern and chic. It’s about 45 mins to an hour away from the airport but trust me I think I made the right choice as it is away from the chaotic busy city. It is closer to the Giza pyramids but in a more upgoing and quieter area of Cairo.
I’m sure you will love this hotel just as much as I did. I’m not going to get into everything we entailed on our way getting to Egypt because as you all know traveling abroud can be very frustrating stressful tiring and overall, just a hot mess at times lol.

On our first full day in Egypt I set up an activity of sand boarding! Egypt has sand dunes gallore I can’t leave this place without attempting to go down one and let me tell you it was one of the highlights of this trip. The Fayoum desert is beautiful one with believe it or not a waterfall and a lake called magic lake within it.
I know you are thinking how in the hell is there water in the middle of the desert, but there is, and it all branches off from the Nile River. The company I went with for sandboarding is called The Sandboarding Club which I will have listed. We started off with a 2 hr drive to Fayoum which gave us an insight on everyday living in other towns and villages and it was a nice scenic route.
One thing I must warn you going towards the desert the roads are not developed much and are bumpy as hell and when I say that I mean the whole way there and mostly back. The gentle men who arranged the day started us off at our first stop at the waterfalls then we made our way to magic lake where the sandboarding would take place. This ride towards the dunes was I kid you not a roller coaster in which I thought I was going to die because I do not like roller coasters. We were basically in a land cruiser sand coasting and crusing which really did make the trip much more exciting from the screams off it lol we had a lot of laughs.
Sandboarding was exhilitaring and I got thee most epic pictures on the dunes and even got my mother to go down one yes, she was living her best life with me, and I never seen her happier. The guys included other activities like volleyball, tennis, and some sand tic tac toe. Later, in the evening towards sunset a fire was started where we had red tea one of their staple teas and roasted marshmellows.
At the end of the tour, we went to their little house they have next to the lake to have a little bar b que they have set up which is included in the price which is around 60.00 us dollars which in my opinion is a steal. After dinner that ended the tour, and we would make our way back into the city. The next day I set up a tour which would take us to the city of Alexandria which is rich in history as it was found by Alexander the Great.
The city has a lot of Greek roman landmarks and there are ruins for example, a roman theatre and the catacombs which shows us the Greek roman Egyptian fusion in the stone carvings that tell us stories of the past. The city has many other cities including the famous library where you can see a head statue of Alexander and The Citadel of Qaitbay which is a defensive fortress located on the seacoast. It was a quick day trip, but I was also able to enjoy some local seafood at a restaurant called Fish Market Marina that I will never forget.
I decided to save the best tours for last so on this day I decided to make it a church day and visit the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha who was ruler of Egypt in 1805-1849 who was also considered the founder of modern Egypt This Mosque was beautiful which also gave you a view of the city uphill. The second one we visted was Al Khalifa Wal Moqattam that was nestled in a cute little town that displayed great artwork and craftsman ship that were perfect for photos.
Now let’s get to the best part what people all over the world come for and thats tombs and pyramids! One thing I didnt know while organizing my itinerary was that Luxor was a 7-hour drive. I set my mind to go to the Valley of the Kings and I wanted to do it exactly on birthday the problem was, how to get there and get a tour in one day. Being the persistent person I am I searched high and low and managed to find a tour that picked us up from our hotel dropped us off to the airport and had the tour guide pick us up from the airport to take us to all the hotspots one being the Valley of the Kings cause thats all what really mattered to me. It also included a buffet lunch at one of the local restaurants that overlooked the Nile which was divine.
I have no words that could explain experiencing the tombs and how much work went into the digging of these tombs and the carving of the most amazing intricate hieroglyogics, Wow wow and wow! Here are some pointers and tips. Walking into the valley there are going to be many vendors selling several different souvenirs and items that will hound you and try to get you to purchase some things.
Once you are at the ticket gate you purchase your ticket and if you want to can purchase additional entry into some of the other tombs, in my opinion a must see is the KV17 Seti I tomb that is filled with beautiful hieroglyphics and to me is like the father of all tombs also you can’t leave the valley without seeing King Tuts tomb along with him in the rotten flesh. Overall, the tombs that are included with the entry purchase are still a sight to see because it is still unbelievable how ancient it is and to be standing where the earliest civilization in world history has begun is just captivating. Also, in the area is one of the oldest standing double Egyptian statue the you cannot miss.
I now must get to another good part which is. I still can’t believe I flew into Luxor for just a full day tour and came back late that night but trust me it was all worth it especially if you’re an explorer to my degree. The next day was light as we needed rest and so because of moms request we decide to take a dinner cruise on the Nile River.
The show was nice with some very talented dancers and the dinner was delicious as well. To top off this phenomenal adventurous trip I saved the last day to explore the famous pyramids and of course to see the sphinx. So, we made our way to the great pyramids of Giza which within the plateau consist of 3 pyramids. we had to get a camel ride that overlooked the pyramids that was so fun but what was the icing on the cake was to be able to enter the great pyramid and climb your way into the kings chamber that gave me Indiana jones vibes and it was SOOO unreal it was a little alarming when the air quality wasn’t so well but that didnt stop me for seeing within the pyramid and all of its structure.
What an exhilarating experience and to end this adventure I managed to capture a video outside the king tuts exhibit of his death mask since no pictures are allowed inside in the Egyptian museum of Cairo! but go see Egypt and all its amazement yourself, you wont regret it!
